2002 Club Championships January 2003

Well it has certainly been an interesting year and sadly our last at Grimwade Hall. Disappointingly since the letter of intent to sell, a number of members virtually stopped attending. It has been left to the regulars to keep us viable. Hopefully some of them will return to race on our new, fast track at Henley. Special thanks to Belinda for sharing the unit with us and thus making it possible to carry on racing.

As the score sheets will show all classes were very close at the finish. With Neil Obee contesting all classes this year, he very nearly had a clean sweep. Joss Manson just clipped his wings for the greatest number of wins in the Group C class tiebreak finish. Stuart Manson was the only one close enough to upset the top two, finishing within 8 points.

In Main grade Sports very few people head Neil over the line in a final, four dnf's left an opening for Tom and Nigel to capitalise on. In B grade Sports nobody came close to catching the ever improving Tom Garnham Jnr.

Saloon Main grade saw Tom Garnham Snr and Nigel Harvey trying to make up the 11 point margin Neil had at the end. In B grade Saloon the Comp Sec just held off Tom Jnr by a too close 3 points..

Formula One is nearly always unpopular with some but the racing was close. 7 points covered the top three in main grade and just one point in it for honours in B grade. Steven Moyes having to settle for 2nd.

That means for 2002 a very deserving Club Championship for Neil Obee and as I write this he is the top racer in the 1/32nd British Open Championship, too. No mean feat when you consider the company he keeps! B-grade Champion goes again to Steven but it was in doubt right up to the end, three of us within 5 points.

In Concours the Comp Sec is still trying to topple the Nigel Harvey domination and I have to say we need more people to enter this. It takes a little time and practice but some of our cars are the best in the UK, just check out the magazines.

Junior champion Tom Garnham, is performing main grade most of the time and just missed 3rd in Sports by 1point. Very well done to him.
