Ipswich Slot Car Club-News

Year end January 2007

The last meeting of the 2006 season was the club AGM, held in December. Top of the agenda for discussion was the clubs future, as the high running costs of the unit and lack of new members continue to cause concern.

Secretarys Report

It has not been the best of years with membership numbers dropping from the start of the year when race nights saw upwards of 18 drivers down to four only for some mid summer evenings. This has been due in part to health and work related reasons which have kept a number of people from regular attendance. This has caused a great deal of concern not least from a financial point of view as the whole cost of the unit is now carried by the club. A recruitment drive has shown no positive returns so it is imperative we find a way of reducing our costs.

On a brighter note, highlight of the year was the retention of the National Club Team title. Well done to our team of drivers, Richard, Neil, Mick and Paul. Congratulations to Paul for his National production title, too. Throughout the year we have hosted a number of race nights for Ipswich scout groups and a couple of birthday parties. These have been well received and provided much needed extra funds for the club coffers but no new members, unfortunately.

Thanks to all members who have given their support and donations throughout the year and those who have worked tirelessly to keep the club going.

Competitions Secretary

Nigel took over from Alan when work commitments became too high for him to continue to attend. The final results of all the club championships were announced by the Com Sec and the trophies awarded to the winners.

Rule changes

For next season it was agreed to continue the Falcon powered Formula 1 championship but not make this the sole F1 class, as had been discussed earlier in the year. There will be separate finals for the two classes and points awarded but only each members best F1 points will count towards the Club Championship.
It was also agreed, in the light of the club's financial problems that a move of club room would be considered if suitable, lower cost accommodation can be found. Kevin agreed to look into this.
Finally, the dates for the two big events of the 2007 season were confirmed, being the Southern 32 round and the British Open meeting. Please click here for the 2007 calendar.
