Ipswich Slot Car Club-News

The new track takes shape March 2003
After twenty years we all seem to have forgotten how much work is involved in building a slot car track. Our early estimates of completition by the end of March have had to be revised and we are now aiming for the beginning of May. To allow time for "debugging" the new circuit the Ipswich round of the Southern Racing League has been moved to 15th June.

New track build 1

The track section in the middle of the picture above is the removeable bridge section which crosses both straights twice. With only a minimun number of supports under the track it was noticeable how much the 12mm MDF sagged between them. A lot of time was spent ensuring that these dips were rectified before the barriers were fitted as the track surface then becomes very rigid.

New track build 2

This is the view from the rostrum end of the room. Top bend in the far distance is the highest point of the track and is the outside of a nested pair of bends. The inner bend is a hairpin of unique design and it sits lower than the outer!

Final bend

The last set of slots is cut completing the lap of the track. Left hand view was taken from the rostrum.
